The star-studded red carpet premiere of The Legend of Maula Jatt made South Asian film history last night at Novo Cinema — Mall of Qatar in Qatar. FAB Entertainment, a Qatar-based entertainment company, has partnered with Qatar Tourism for the world premiere of the early launch with a glittering line-up of celebrities.
The star cast in attendance included Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Gohar Rasheed and Faris Shafi, as well as the film’s director Bilal Lashari and producer Ammara Hikmat. The film is a reboot of the Punjabi cult classic Maula Jatt, which was released in 1979 and ran in local theaters for several years. Now nearly half a decade in the making, this highly anticipated reboot was worth the wait as it left audiences glued to their seats with an experience that delighted all the visual senses.
The appearance of the cast along with the film’s director and producer at the Mall of Qatar’s Oasis drew crowds like a big wave. The cast interacted with ecstatic fans and expressed their joy at being in Qatar for the premiere of The Legend of Maula Jatt. Fans were also treated to a live performance by Faris Shafi, who burst into cheers as he sang.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahira Khan said, “I don’t think we could have had a better international premiere than in Qatar. And even if you don’t know Punjabi, that’s okay, we want you to watch it two or three times,” added Fawad Khan, “This is the only international premiere of the film happening and why not make it special with you guys, guys, in Doha.”
Qatar Tourism Chief Operating Officer Berthold Trenkel said: “We were truly delighted to welcome the world premiere of the magnum opus ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ to Qatar last night. It was a joy to see different cultures and industries come together to create a historic treat for action film fans and we hope the cast and crew enjoyed Qatar’s hospitality during their stay.”
FAB Entertainment CEO Fauzia Vohra said, “The world premiere of Maula Jatt in Qatar was a massive success tonight, with record numbers turning up in theaters to watch the film and catch a glimpse of their stars red carpet favorites! Maula Jatt is clearly a turning point for Pakistani cinema. The audience was delighted to see their favorite duo Mahira and Fawad reunited on screen. And what better place than Doha to host this world premiere, given Qatar’s enviable position as a dream destination and regional leader in film, fashion, culture and the performing arts. Director Bilal Lashari added: “Qatar is a global scene at the moment, celebrating film and culture and bringing people together from all over the world. Directed by Bilal Lashari and produced by Ammara Hikmat (Encyclomedia), the film is Lashari’s take on the ‘Gandassa’ genre set in Pakistan’s Punjab province and tells the story of Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan), a heroic and cherished warrior who has a Face fierce with his nemesis Noori Natt (Hamza Ali Abbasi) in an epic battle of revenge for honor and glory. Mahira Khan plays the female lead as Mukkho Jatti with Humaima Malik as Daaro Nattni.
